Leadership by miscalculation

When Barak Obama was running for President in 2008, he said repeatedly that he would bring “hope and change” to the American people. Well, the “hope” part hasn’t worked out all that well, but the “change” part has surely succeeded beyond even his wildest expectations. Problem is, the change we got is a far cry from what the vast majority of those who voted for him thought they would be getting.

During the campaign candidate Obama promised to be our first “post-racial” president, ending once and for all the racial divisions that have persisted ever since the end of the Civil War. But instead, as President his words and deeds have increased the level of racial tension in America to a level rivaling the one we endured before the death of Jim Crow.

Next we have Obama’s miscalculation on the economy. The Obama White House insisted that the passage of Congress’ gargantuan “stimulus” package would prevent unemployment from rising above 8%. Well, unemployment has been hovering at around 10% ever since its passage, and the employment outlook is looking even worse going forward from here. In short, we have little to show for the largest increase in the federal deficit since our nation was born way back in July 1776.

Another plank in candidate Obama’s platform was the promise to close the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. On the campaign trail, he often repeated the promise that Guantanamo would be closed within a year of his inauguration, but here we are just 4 months shy of the beginning of the third year of his presidency and Guantanamo Bay is still up and running just as before. Why? Because he and the “experts” advising him miscalculated the difficulty in finding another place to put the terrorists detained there.

And now for the biggie: Health Care. Obama, Pelosi and Reid promised the rank and file Democrat members of Congress that if they would vote for the bill’s passage against the wishes of their constituents, the “dumb masses” would ultimately see the light and end up supporting it after they “found out what was in it”. But even after the President has given approximately 1,000 speeches on health care, roughly 60% of all Americans now want the monstrosity repealed at the first opportunity.

At every turn Mr. Obama has made the wrong choice after consulting with his army of “experts”. All of those miscalculations will come back to haunt him and the Democrats in Congress in November 2010 and 2012. And that will be a good thing indeed for the huge majority of Americans who truly love their country.

Is the Tea Party really racist?

The NAACP has just denounced the Tea Party for being a “racist organization”, but are they? Well, check out this video from a recent Tea Party event and decide for yourself.

“Gas money”

If you’re ever around a shopping center on the weekends you have no doubt seen dozens of teenagers and young adults “cruising” through the parking lot and out on the “main drag”. Lap after lap and mile after mile, they just seem to drive around in circles with no particular destination in mind. My, what fun…

Having grown up in an era when only the rich kids owned cars and could afford the gas to power them, it boggles my mind to see a bunch of teens cruising around in expensive cars and SUV’s, burning up Lord knows how much $3 a gallon gasoline in the process. Watching it all unfold, I can’t help but wonder just how many of them have to pay for their own gas? My guess is not many.

I think it’s great that today’s parents can afford to provide more luxuries for their kids than in previous generations, but I also wonder if they might be getting “too much of a good thing”. I suppose time will tell.

The brevity of summer

Summers seemed to last forever when I was a youngster. Most of those long, hot days were spent toiling away in the tobacco patch, exploring the woods near our southwestern Virginia home or playing baseball with my Little League team (or with friends in some pasture field). Back then it seemed like there were about 50 hours between sun-up and sun-down, and we kids made full use of each and every one of them.

But something happened to a bunch of those hours as I grew into adolescence and adulthood. All of a sudden those seemingly endless summer days began going by a lot faster, and nowadays there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do all things I need to get accomplished. Of course it’s that way for everyone who has the commitments of adulthood to deal with, but I must admit that sometimes it seems like it’s just me.

Childhood is a special time in one’s life. It’s a time for doing chores and learning to handle responsibilty, but even more importantly it’s a time for playing with friends and just enjoying the act of being a child. Our children and grandchildren will only be able to experience one childhood, and that experience will pass by all too quickly. Let’s allow them to enjoy those long summer days as best they can because their Autumn is lurking just around the corner.

Why feminists hate Sarah Palin

One would think that the mainstream feminists in America would absolutely adore Sarah Palin and hold her up as a role model for young girls all across America, but they do not. The fact of the matter is, they detest her. And it really isn’t all that hard to figure out why.

Sarah Palin is a woman who crashed right through virtually every barrier ever erected to keep women from being all they can be. Never one to shy away from controversy, she ascended to the governorship of our largest state and eagerly took on the “good ole boy” establishment that had ruled the state’s government since Alaska first became a state way back in 1959. And she prevailed.

She also became a star on the national political scene that outshines any other female politician, and through it all she even managed to bag an elk or two. Yet after all of her accomplishments, the mainstream feminists who should be celebrating her amazing success at breaking down barriers for women and girls instead disparage her at every turn.

In reality, the mainstream feminists aren’t really feminists at all. They are simply extreme leftwing stooges for the progressive wing of the Democratic party. They have shown their true colors by choosing to diminish the one woman who actually has the power and influence to finally help bring to fruition everything the real feminists have been dreaming about for decades. Why? Because while she believes in total equality between the sexes, she also recognizes and celebrates the inherent God-given differences between males and females. For proof, one needs only to look at the way she dresses and applies her make-up. You’ll find nothing mascusline or ambigous there.

Of course Palin also believes in God and the right of the unborn to live, which just adds fuel to the fire of hatred that lives within the hearts of Gloria Steinem and her ilk.

This might come as quite a shock to regular readers of this blog, but I myself am a feminist – but in the same way that Sarah Palin is a feminist. I want my granddaughters to be free to grow up to be anything they want to be, whether it be an astronaut, President of the United States, or a housewife who never leaves the house to take a public job. The sky should be the limit in regards to their goals in life, and their own unique abilities and limitations should be the only things that assist or hinder their climb towards their goals. And so it should be with ALL girls and women in these great United States of America. But most women who wear the “feminist” label seem to disagree – hence their hatred for Sarah Palin.

When politicians act like jerks…

Video cameras are everywhere nowadays. In fact, if you own a cell phone there is a very good chance that it has one built right in. With that in mind, why on earth would a politician whose very career lives and breathes on good public will act like a jerk in public? Check out this video of an encounter between a pair of college students and Congressman Bob Etheridge (D-NC):

Mind boggling isn’t it? I guess it just goes to show that jerks wil be jerks, regardess of the office they happen to hold.

Al Gore vs. Ed Begley, Jr.

The environmental movement consists primarily of two groups of individuals. The first group are folks who are genuinely concerned about the state of the environment and the future of the planet. Those in the second group are simply out to use fear and dread to make boatloads of cash for themselves. And no two individuals epitomize these two factions better than Ed Begley, Jr. and Al Gore.

Mr. Gore has masterfully managed to con his way into making untold millions off of the “global warming” scare while living in an energy guzzling mansion the size of a small town and flying back and forth between his half-dozen other homes and various cities around the world in a fuel-guzzling jet. Although he talks a good talk, virtually everything he says fits somewhere on the truth meter between greatly exaggerated and outright fraudulent.

Mr. Begley on the other hand is a true believer. He backs up his words with actions by choosing to live in a modest 1600 square foot home that runs primarily on solar and power power. And while he does use some electricity from the grid, his annual electric bill is only around $300 per year, about what many folks pay out in a single month. And while his job as as actor requires occasional travel, he flies only when absolutely necessary, and on the most fuel-efficient plane available at the time. Oh, and he also gets around town either by riding a bicycle or hopping aboard public transportation or into his electric car.

While I think Mr. Begley is a bit fanatical in his belief in global warming and his intense desire to “save the planet”, I also think he is completely sincere. After all, he “practices what he preaches”. Al Gore on the other hand is nothing more than a charlatan who preaches the “religion” of global warming and rakes in mountains of cash while “sinning” with the best of them when church is out.

As for me, while I certainly want to keep the water clean and the air fit to breathe, I have no desire to ruin our economy or live like the Flintstones in an effort to reduce my “carbon footprint”. But if I did, I would be much more likely to listen to Mr. Begley rather than Mr. Gore.

The lies and distortions of Richard Blumenthal

Richard Blumenthal is running for the office of United States States Senator from the great state of Connecticut, and he would appreciate your vote. Luckily for him, I live in Virginia or his opponent would certainly receive mine.

You see, Mr. Blumenthal is a fake and a liar. Over the years he has repeatedly led others to believe that he was a Viet Nam veteran, and recently he even explicitly said so. The problem is, he was never anywhere near Viet Nam. He did serve in the National Guard while the true heroes were fighting and dying in southwest Asia, but the closest he ever got to seeing combat was attending his weekend drills back home.

I myself served on active duty during the first Gulf war. Does that in and of itself make me a Gulf War veteran? Of course not. I split my active duty time between Korea and Georgia, and even though I was on active duty for the duration of the first Gulf War, I AM NOT a Gulf War vet.

In my opinion, to be considered a “vet” of any war, one must have actually served in the theater while the bullets were flying. I didn’t, therefore I’m not a combat veteran. Mr. Blumenthal didn’t either, yet for years he has led everyone to believe that he did. To a true combat vet and the people who love and respect them, that is a grave insult.

A combat veteran is a person who lived from day to day with the knowlege that he/she might take a bullet, step on a land mine or drive over an IED at any time. A combat vet saw his/her friends and comrades shot up and/or blown to bits. Only a combat vet can truly know what it’s like to experience the horrors of war first hand, up close and personal.

I never experienced any of that, and I have never claimed to have done so. And while I’m extremely proud to have worn the uniform of the United States Military and I would have willingly went into combat had I been asked to do so, I wasn’t and I didn’t. My service was a mere shell of that of my brothers and sisters in arms who actually fought in the Gulf War. For Mr. Blumenthal to claim to have served in Viet Nam is simply shameful. Just my two cents worth…

Pelosi wants taxpayers to buy health insurance for artists

Just when I thought Nancy Pelosi couldn’t move any farther to the left, she came out with this stunning statement:

Now I’m a big a supporter of those who wish to entertain the rest of us by creating works of art, performing music, etc., but I DO NOT think the American taxpayer should be expected to purchase the artists’ health insurance for them if their artistic endeavors don’t pay well enough to allow them to buy their own insurance. They should be expected to do what every other person who follows their low-pay dream is expected to do: Get a second job tp pay for insurance! Sheesh!!!

We the people…

We the people…

- are sick and tired of our elected leaders passing laws and imposing regulations that the majority of us do not approve of.

- are sick and tired of non-elected appointees and judges making it ever more difficult to live our lives as we wish and run our businesses in the most profitable manner possible.

- are sick and tired of a misguided few using the courts to impose a twisted form of ”fairness” on the common sense majority of Americans.

- are sick and tired of having to “Press 1 for English”.

- are sick and tired of illegal aliens sneaking into our country and then having the nerve to try to change it after they get here.

- are sick and tired of the politicians in both parties who aid and abet them in this criminal behavior.

- are sick and tired of a President and Congress who blatantly disregard the obvious will of the people after being elected to represent our views in the nation’s capitol.

- are sick and tired of seeing our Navy Seals, Army Rangers and elite Marines face courts martial simply for doing the dangerous job we ask them to do on our behalf.

- are sick and tired of seeing our fellow citizens killed and maimed while trying to defend their lives and property from people who have no business being in our country in the first place.

- are sick and tired of seeing our kids suspended from school for displaying the American flag while the Mexican flag is hanging high for all to see.

We the people of the United States of America love this country. We treasure and hold dear the ideals the founding fathers instilled in all of us by risking their lives and fortunes to fight for and win our independence from a tyranical government and form the most noble and most successful nation ever to inhabit the planet. Countless thousands of patriots have fought and died over the centuries to preserve those ideals, our most precious freedoms and our unique American way of life. We the people will not stand idly by and watch a relative few steal away from us everything that is good about life as a United States citizen.

Elected leaders, take note: We put you in power; We will take you out. It will be a peaceful expulsion, but make no mistake about it. We WILL take you out. First in Virginia, then New Jersey, and even in liberal Massachusetts, we have made our wishes known in regards as to how we want and EXPECT to be REPRESENTED. Ignore our wishes at your own peril.

We the people will ultimately prevail because the founders have bestowed upon us the ultimate veto power – the power to choose our own leaders. And choose them we will, commencing on November 2, 2010. The message is simple: Do the job you were elected to do in the way that the Constitution requires, or prepare to lose it.
