The President’s mixed-up priorities

Every American President finds a full plate waiting for him the moment he takes the oath of office, and President Obama is no exception. With the nation fighting two wars, the economy in the tank, the deficit at a record high and growing, approximately 10 percent unemployment, and an ambitious legislative agenda that the majority of Americans clearly don’t want, it’s easy to see that he must set priorities for spending his time. But personally, I think he has his priorities very much out of order.

Back in September while our nation was struggling with a mountain of extremely important issues, President Obama found the time to fly to Copenhagen, Denmark in a failed bid to bring the 2016 Summer Olympic Games to his hometown of Chicago.  But today, as Germans and the rest of the free world were celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the President couldn’t spare the time to fly to Berlin to help recognize one of the most monumental events of the 20th century. Is it just me, or does something seem way off-kilter with that?

After all the criticism Mr. Obama took over the Chicago trip and his rather “interesting” rank of priorities, you would think that his advisers would have explained to him the impact that the fall of the Berlin Wall had on world history and how it would look to the rest of the world if he failed to participate in the anniversary festivities. Well, apparently they did not. To be fair, President Obama did record a video recognizing the anniversary which was played for the massive crowd in Berlin, but in my opinion his physical presence would have been a lot more helpful in Berlin than in Copenhagen.
