New Chevy Volt to get 230 MPG

According to tests conducted by GM, the new Chevy Volt should get a whopping 230 miles per gallon in city driving. Of course the gas mileage while driving on the open highway would be a lot less since city users would often be able to drive all over town without completely exhausting the charge on the car’s large battery (a single charge is estimated to last for 40 miles). But hey, what a breakthrough nonetheless!

The Volt’s 230 MPG city mileage is almost four times the Toyota Prius’ 51 MPG, a fact that should spur Toyota and other auto makers to design and build models that are just as fuel efficient as the Volt. As always, competition in the hybrid and electric car market will help lower prices to where the average person can afford to buy them. After all, with an estimated price tag of around $40,000, the Volt will likely be out of reach for most consumers.
