Just when I think there is nothing that could possibly shock me anymore, something else turns up in the news to prove me wrong. The latest sad story involves an 11 year old girl who was abducted from her bus stop and held as a sex slave by an unspeakably evil man for 18 years before finally being reunited with her family. She even ended up having two children by her captor, both of whom were forced to endure the same demented treatment as their mother.
The ogre kept his captives imprisoned in a tiny backyard shed for virtually all of that time, with no modern amenities and no opportunities for attending school or even associating with other people. In my opinion, only God Himself is capable of meting out the kind of punishment that this man deserves.
I have often wondered what kind of depraved person would treat another human being so badly. Of course there have been countless other people in human history who treated their fellow man just as bad (or worse) as this monster treated these girls, but it’s just hard to imagine that something like this can take place in modern day America. The good news is the young lady and her children have been reunited with their family, but it’s hard telling just how many others are being subjected to the same kind of treatment as we speak.
God is a supremely loving, compassionate being, but he is also supremely vengeful. I have a feeling that He has some special plans for ultimately punishing the evil monsters who subject others to such cruel treatment. I believe that most people are inherently good, but the relatively few truly bad apples among us ruin lives on a scale that we can only imagine. But some day they will meet their maker and have to account for their depravity, and on that day they will find out exactly what their despicable actions have wrought.
