Don’t miss February 20th’s Lunar Eclipse!

On February 20th, those of us who enjoy looking up at the night sky will receive a real treat: a total lunar eclipse. And this one is going to be special because it will be easily seen from most parts of the world!

A lunar eclipse occurs whenever the earth “passes between” the moon and the sun (actually, it’s the moon doing the “passing”). The earth prevents the sun’s rays from reaching the lunar surface, causing the brightly-lit moon to go dark right before your very eyes. It’s a really cool event to witness as the earth’s shadow slowly “crawls” onto and across the moon, covering more and more of its surface and changing its color as it passes by.

You can learn a lot more about lunar eclipses in general, and this one in particular by visiting NASA’s Eclipse home page.
