As regular visitors to RickRouse.com surely know by now, one of my favorite pastimes is picking up my camera and heading off somewhere to take some pictures. I’m not a professional photographer, but every once in a while I do manage to capture a pretty decent image, and when I do I usually end up featuring it on TodaysPhoto.org as a “Picture of the Day”.
I published the very first ”Picture of the Day” on February 24, 2005, and ever since then I have published a different photograph each and every day along with a short “story” about it (background info, location, what made it special enough to warrant being selected as a POTD, etc.).
A lot of the featured pictures were taken by either Cheria or myself, but many others were taken by other photographers from all around the world. And while there are certainly a large number of professional-quality photographs on there, a good number of them are just average, taken by folks like me who simply enjoy taking pictures for the fun of it. I have never limited my choices to only the best of the best, but rather to photographs that strike a chord with me for one reason or another.
I suppose what really motivates me the most in keeping the “Picture of the Day” going is the way the endeavor allows me to not only tell you what I think and what I like, but to show you as well. I have always enjoyed sharing my thoughts and opinions with others (and vice versa), and the same goes for my “views” of the world in which we live as expressed through the art and science of photography.
If you have never checked out my “Picture of the Day” feature on TodaysPhoto.org before, I invite you to do so. And if you are at all intrigued by what you find there, I invite you to return every day to see the latest installment. And who knows? Maybe you’ll end up submitting a picture or two of your own!
I just left Picture of the Day. It is a marvelous site.
Thanks Phyllis. I’m so glad you enjoy it! I hope you all have a great 2008!
Ya know I love the site, especially the personal writings.
